Sensei Rashid Siddiqui -My martial Art life started at the age of 5-6 years in my village where I started practicing Indian wrestling. In 1970 I shifted to Mumbai specially for education. My father gave me some martial art books named, how to learn Judo and How to learn Karate in 1975 and me and my brother started practicing with these books. In beginning of 1980 I joined the regular Shotokan Karate ,JKA class in kandivali(w) under guidence of Sensei Sharad Parekh up to 1984 but not able to give my black belt exam due to my personal reasons.I was not getting time to practice karate because of my medical college studies and hospital works ,and in July 1991 I joined as a medical officer job in Kingdom of Saudia Arabia. But in between in this period I got chance to get personal training in Manchurian kung and other style of Kung fu also for short period. In suadia Arabia I was not getting time to practice but due to overweight I started thinking about my health and again started my practice in 2009 but unable to do comfortably because of stiffness of my body and in 2010 I came Mumbai and taken personal training in Tai Chi and I continued this up to 2011 and I got good response for my body. In 2011, I started practicing wing chun, in March 2012 I again visited Mumbai and joined personal training class and I stopped other martial arts and fully concentrated on wing chun practice because of its effective results both physically and mentally. In September 2013 I met Sifu Chaitannya Naik for further advance training and I was very impressed with his humble talks and behaviour and after three months he accepted me and started my training from beginning and taught me the original Ip man wing chun and combat martial arts up to now and I am still learning and trying to get in sight of wing chun from him till further of my life.
Sensei U Amarnath - I foresee a great future for Wingchun since this is an art which can be learnt at any age, more practical for self defense with economy of movement. The practice of this art does not require more space like other martial arts, hence this is more advantageous in cities where the space is limited
Since my childhood, I have a deep interest to pursue arts that involve physical ,
mental and spiritual elements. I initially started with Yoga at the age of 14 beside
regular sports. At the age of 15, I started with Taekwondo and pursued this
art for 2 years till I completed my 12th standard.
I had moved to college at a different location where I practised Karate for 4 years.
While practising Karate, I had understood the importance of sparring .
After completion of my graduation in 1985, I had joined our family business and
was out of attending regular martial arts classes . I got married in 1989 and with
more responsibilities both professionally and personally, my practice of martial
arts was limited till 2002.
In May 2002, I had joined Yang style Tai Chi. I had learnt the entire
empty hand forms, push hand forms , sword and sabre forms. I was very impressed by his simplified and practical applications of Yang Tai chi. The practice of Taichi taught me how to maintain calmness in any adverse situation. I had decided to continue this learning of martial arts as a continuous process. In 2008, I had joined Iaijutsu. The practice of Iaijutsu taught me to be mentally aggressive yet physically calm.
I was researching to study a martial arts style which is more practical in today's
world in a real life situation. I searched the internet and after further enquiries, I
found that Sifu Chaitanya Naik is the teacher of authentic Wing Chun in India.
I joined as a student in December 2012 and learnt the first 3 empty hand forms of WingChun. Sifu Chaitanya Naik is a dedicated teacher and taught me all the details of the forms and the applications. I found Wingchun to be a different style with close range combat applications and economy of movement and energy. I wish to pursue this study of Wingchun to understand the philosophy of this art at all levels.
Sensei Ojas Vora (Asst Instructor Mumbai)- Martial art was really not something that I was passionate about earlier in my life. I had other hobbies such as cricket which I was more passionate about than martial art. However, I was introduced to Karate at a very young age in our school. It was a part of my extracurricular activities in the school. I was more excited to wear the Karate uniform and to brag about it rather than to learn. After a while Karate activity stopped in our school. After a couple of years we were sent to Civil Defence Staff College, Mumbai by our school where as teenagers we learnt Basic and First Aid course. After I left school, I was keen on learning kung fu but was unsure about which style I should opt for. Searching for a good martial art school, I came across an academy which taught Jeet Kune Do. This involved western style of boxing which was really not what I was looking for. I was more interested towards traditional Chinese martial art which not only helps in fighting but also involves various healing techniques through meditation. Jeet kune do involved some wing chun techniques also, this is how I got to know the name “Wing Chun”. I successfully completed my basic jeet june do course and had to stop it as it was not something I was looking for. After checking out various academies on the internet I got to know about “Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Art Association” through which I got to know about SIfu Chaitanya Naik. But Sir would not accept students easily and at a young age. After a while of discussion with my mom and me sir was convinced and gave me a chance to practice. Initially wing chun was difficult for someone like me who had been a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do. Authentic wing chun involves centre line theory and a different stance which I was not familiar with. After a lot of regular practice and dedication I steadily transformed into a better practitioner. I completed my basic first form of wing chun in a while. I had severely injured my shoulder while playing volleyball which forced me to undergo an arthroscopy and which eventually led me to stop practicing for the time being. After the operation, I never thought I would be able to go further in wing chun because of my condition. There were a lot of challenges like lack of practice that I had to overcome in order to go ahead in this. After months of sitting and watching others practice, I finally decided to overcome this condition. I started with my regular practice to improve my basics more every day. Sir showed faith in me and gave me a chance to achieve the most prestigious thing in martial art which is “The Black Belt”. I had to change my approach towards this. This involved, following a fixed diet, waking up at 5 am in the morning and practicing. I achieved my black belt after a lot of hard work and perseverance. Now that it has been a long time since me practicing wing chun and combat techniques, I have not only developed my fighting skills but also teaching. Teaching students is a very tedious task which I have been improving over the years. This has not only given me confidence of public speaking but also a calm mind which is very essential in crisis management. I would thank Sifu for accepting me as his student and guiding me in how to become a better instructor as well. This has now become a daily routine for me and something I am really “passionate” about. I would like to continue wing chun and combat till a long time unless I’m unfit to practice. If given a chance I would like to train the police or the armed forces under Sifu. I aspire to open my own academy which always would keep me close to martial art and moreover wing chun. I would also want to learn this art till wherever I can because “sky is the limit”. I still have a long way to go in martial arts but teaching this art to deserving and sincere people would be my ultimate goal
Sensei -Sreenath TM - From my experience I believe that martial arts can make a change in real life. I will continue my study in martial arts and I will develop my school. I believe that I can start classes in different places in Kerala. My intension is to spread the importance of martial arts, especially for women in Kerala. And I will focus on giving proper training for children. Children are the ones who are very vital for deciding how the world is going to become. I believe that they can make a drastic change for next generation. I am Sreenath from a beautiful village in Kerala. I am a Computer graduate and proprietor of a design hub Adarsh Infotech. I am staying with my family having father, mother, brother, sister, wife and daughter. When I was child I started learning about martial arts. As my father was a practitioner of kalary, martial arts of Kerala, I started learning from him. Many of my family members those who have experience in martial arts inspired me a lot. I came to know about kungfu from them and I started learning about the style from different books. I decided to join and learn kungfu from a reputed school. In 1999 I joined in a kungfu school and started learning Chinese kungfu and Wing Chun kungfu. I focused on wing Chun kungfu. In 2008 I got job in an International school in Mumbai and I moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai I wanted to continue learning martial arts. I started searching for a good teacher. I heard about different styles and teachers. But I am not satisfied with them. My intention was to learn true Ip Man system of Wing Chun kungfu. Finally I reached International Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Arts Association India. There I met Sifu Chaitanya R Naik , All India representative of the Samuel Kwok Wing Chun kungfu and founder of Combat Martial Arts Academy. There I could continue Wing Chun kungfu and started learning Mixed Martial Arts from him. I realized that I am getting proper training and instructions compared with my previous experience. I learned from him how to teach others in proper way. He inspired me a lot because the way of teaching and knowledge. He helped me to improve myself in real life. In 2013 Sifu Chaitanya R Naik awarded me 1st Dan in the art of Combat Mixed Martial Arts. In 2016 I moved and settled in Kerala. I continue my practice the way I learned from Sifu Chaitanya and I wanted to start class over there.
In Kerala there are different style of martial arts classes and martial artists. But people are not aware about the importance of martial arts in real life. It is because they are not care about health and fitness. Now a day’s everyone is busy with there on life. There is no respect to each other, no positive social awareness and no discipline. In today’s increasingly violent world, crime can strike anywhere. The important point is women are not safe in India. Women are often times the target of sex crimes and, not knowing how to defend themselves. The most important reason for a girl to get involved in the martial arts is the capacity for self-defense that she will develop. The martial arts help girls to focus on what’s important in their lives.
